The City of Belmont is a local government area located about eight kilometres to the east of the central business district of Perth. It covers an area of almost forty square kilometres and has a population of approximately forty thousand.

Perth Airport is located within the City of Belmont Both the domestic and international airport are within the locality and account for one third of the land mass of the area.

There are three wards within the City of Belmont. The West, East and South Ward. In each ward the residents are represented by three councillors. The suburbs of Ascot, Cloverdale, Kewdale, Belmont, Redcliffe and Rivervale are all within the City's boundaries.
