The following motions were all carried at the 2018 Annual Electors Meeting in December.
Councillors had the opportunity to vote for these motions at the first Ordinary Council Meeting for 2019. We wrote to the councillors asking them to support these motions.
When the 2017 carried motions went before at the OCM in 2018, they were put together in one package and ignored what the residents had voted for. We asked that they do not do this once again, as being dismissed does not show regard for the residents.
1) As a result of the adoption of the more formal rules for public question time now it is being recorded and which is subsequently disadvantaging the residents, that the City of Belmont ammend rules of Public Question Time as to allow residents adequate time to ask questions and get a response. If Councillors dont support this tonight and when it is raised in 2019 they should consider if they are there to represent the residents
2) That the City of Belmont adopt a more concillatory approach when dealing with Residents and use litigation as a last resort.
3) That the City of Belmont conduct a survey of the residents of Belmont, on their use of the local roads to access Perth Airport. It is to include route of travel, starting or ending location and frequency of use.
4) That the City of Belmont make available via their website a copy of the approved recordings of Public Question Time to all Residents of Belmont free of charge For a trial period of six month (amended motion)
5) That the City of Belmont is transparent and provides an adequate response to the Ratepayers of Belmont as to why there is a significant discrepancy on the amount of costs awarded by the courts in the Saldanah case and that of the actual costs as advised by the CEO as it is Ratepayers money.
Outcome
Our Councillors once again decided there was nothing needed to be done with the motions and the views of the residents were irrelevant.
